NVIDIA App AI Agents On by Default? How to Turn It Off

Is the NVIDIA App AI agents setting already switched on in your PC? NVIDIA App 11.0.9.565 adds a local server that lets compatible AI assistants control parts of the app, and VideoCardz found the option enabled after updating. Other users report the same thing. The fix takes about a minute, and you don't need to uninstall anything.

Has NVIDIA responded? NVIDIA documents the feature in its official NVIDIA App release highlights, but as of publication it has not publicly explained why the setting appears to be on by default. VideoCardz and Brazil's Hardware.com.br both point out that missing explanation.

What did the NVIDIA App update add?

According to NVIDIA's release notes, the app now includes a local MCP (Model Context Protocol) server "that lets a compatible AI agent control the NVIDIA App using natural-language requests." NVIDIA names Hermes, OpenClaw and Perplexity as example assistants. MCP is a common standard that lets AI tools talk to other software.

Hardware.com.br reports the update was released on October 13. It drew wide attention after game designer Agustín Cordes posted a warning on X on October 15, saying the setting was enabled by default and calling it "a high security risk you may not want."

What can AI agents actually do in the NVIDIA App?

VideoCardz lists 12 tools exposed by the server, based on NVIDIA's documentation. Some only read information, while others change things on your PC:

  • See detected games and apps, and launch them.
  • Apply Balanced, Performance, Recommended or Quality game presets, or restore previous settings.
  • Start or stop ShadowPlay recording, save Instant Replay clips and take screenshots.
  • Show or hide the performance overlay and toggle RTX Dynamic Vibrance.
  • Check installed drivers, available updates and driver release notes.
  • Change Battery Boost and Whisper Mode on supported laptops.

Is the NVIDIA App AI server a security risk?

The server listens only on the loopback address 127.0.0.1, on port 13508 by default, according to the documentation cited by VideoCardz and Hardware.com.br. It is not open to the internet, and it does not connect your PC to an AI service by itself. Nothing happens unless you install an agent that knows how to use it.

The concern is what happens if you do. VideoCardz notes that many agents rely on cloud models, so information pulled from the NVIDIA App could leave your PC depending on how that agent works. Hardware.com.br adds that there is no verified evidence so far of the feature being used to compromise computers. The main objection is the default: most gamers have no agent installed, so the server does nothing useful for them.

How do you turn off AI agents in the NVIDIA App?

  1. Open the NVIDIA App.
  2. Go to Settings, then Features.
  3. Scroll to the section called AI Agents and App Connections (VideoCardz saw it labelled Connect Agents & Apps).
  4. Switch off "Allow AI agents to control NVIDIA App." The toggle turns from green to gray.

Per NVIDIA's MCP documentation, as cited by VideoCardz, turning off this master toggle stops the persistent server from running. You can switch it back on from the same menu if you start using an AI agent later.

Should you skip the NVIDIA App 11.0.9.565 update?

Not necessarily. The same release adds native RTX Spark support, a new DLSS Frame Generation Performance Mode (Beta) called "Model C," extra CPU stats in the overlay (clock, power and temperature) and several bug fixes. Updating and then turning off the agent toggle keeps those changes without leaving an unused server running.

Buy or wait: does this change your next GPU or gaming PC?

No. This is a software setting you can turn off in seconds, not a hardware limit, so it shouldn't decide whether you buy a GeForce card now or wait. If you're shopping, judge a card on performance, VRAM and price. Browse our gaming PCs, graphics cards and refurbished PCs. Whatever NVIDIA system you end up with, check this toggle after each major NVIDIA App update.

NVIDIA App AI agents FAQ

Is the NVIDIA App AI agent setting on for everyone?

That isn't confirmed. VideoCardz found it enabled after updating and other users report the same, but NVIDIA hasn't said whether it ships turned on for every installation. Check your own settings.

Does the NVIDIA App send my data to an AI company?

Not by itself. The server is local only. Data could leave your PC only if you connect an agent that uses a cloud service.

Will turning it off break game settings or recording?

The toggle controls the agent server. You can still optimize games, record with ShadowPlay and update drivers yourself in the NVIDIA App.

Which AI assistants work with it?

NVIDIA names Hermes, OpenClaw and Perplexity as examples of compatible agents.
