Styx: Blades of Greed Delayed to 2026 and Why Now Is a Great Time to Play the Series

Styx: Blades of Greed pushed to 2026

Fans of sneaky goblins will need a bit more patience. Styx: Blades of Greed, the next game in Cyanide’s cult stealth series, has officially been delayed. Originally planned for late 2025, the new launch date is now February 19, 2026.

The developers at Cyanide, along with publisher Nacon, say they are taking the extra time to polish the game, tweak problem areas, and make sure Styx’s big return meets expectations. Rather than rushing to hit an end of 2025 deadline, they are aiming for a more refined experience that can stand proudly next to the previous entries.

For fans, this is a mixed blessing. There is the disappointment of waiting longer, but also the reassurance that the game will not be shoved out the door unfinished. In the current era of massive day one patches and half baked launches, a short delay focused on quality can be a very good sign.

A quick look back at the Styx series

Styx has always been a bit of an underdog series, living in the AA space between small indie stealth titles and big budget blockbusters. The star is Styx himself, a foul mouthed, scheming goblin who is as entertaining as he is unpleasant.

The series found its footing with Styx: Master of Shadows, a third person stealth game that focuses on careful movement, vertical level design, and clever use of abilities. It was followed by Styx: Shards of Darkness, which refined the formula without completely reinventing it.

Both games earned review scores in the high 70s, which reflects their status as solid, enjoyable stealth games with some rough edges rather than huge mainstream hits. They captured a loyal fan base that loves the mix of sneaking, platforming style movement, and goblin flavored humor.

Styx did not appear out of nowhere. Before starring in his own stealth series, he was actually a supporting character in the 2012 action RPG Of Orcs and Men. That game introduced players to the world and tone that Styx would later call home, but it was the dedicated stealth titles that really established him as a cult favorite.

Because of this history, expectations for Styx: Blades of Greed are fairly clear. Players are hoping for:

  • Refined stealth mechanics that build on Master of Shadows and Shards of Darkness
  • Larger and more intricate levels with multiple routes and creative options
  • More of Styx’s sarcastic, abrasive personality and dark humor
  • Modern quality of life improvements without losing the series’ identity

The delay suggests that Cyanide is aware of those expectations and wants time to smooth out the experience rather than risk a disappointing comeback.

Now is the perfect time to catch up

While waiting for Blades of Greed, there is a silver lining. The earlier Styx games are heavily discounted right now, making this a great time to dive into the series if you missed it the first time around.

Both Styx: Master of Shadows and Styx: Shards of Darkness are currently 90 percent off in GOG’s Cyber Monday sale. That puts each game down to just a couple of dollars, which is an easy impulse buy if you enjoy stealth titles or want something different from the usual big budget action games.

For PC players in particular, these games are an interesting look at how AA stealth design has evolved over the last decade. They mix classic stealth ideas like line of sight and shadow based hiding with more modern level layouts and traversal options. If you like planning routes, observing enemy patrols, and pulling off clean infiltrations without being seen, Styx is worth your time.

It is also a good chance to see how the character and world have grown. Starting from his origins in Of Orcs and Men and moving through his standalone stealth releases, Styx has gone from side character to the face of a niche but beloved franchise. Understanding that arc will likely make Blades of Greed more enjoyable when it finally arrives in 2026.

So while the delay may sting a little, there is still plenty of goblin themed stealth action to enjoy. Grab the earlier games on sale, get familiar with Styx’s particular brand of mischief, and by the time February 2026 rolls around you will be more than ready for his next big heist.
