Grab These PC Classics Before They Vanish From GOG

Two Great PC Games Are Leaving GOG Very Soon

If you have been eyeing Ancestors: The Humankind Odyssey or The Outer Worlds for your PC library, now is the time to act. Both games are being delisted from GOG on December 15, which means you will no longer be able to purchase them there after that date.

The one bit of good news is that Ancestors: The Humankind Odyssey is currently heavily discounted. GOG has cut the price by 80 percent, dropping it to around 8 dollars. The Outer Worlds unfortunately is not getting a similar discount before it disappears.

The delisting covers everything related to both games on GOG. That includes all editions and any add ons or DLC. Once they are removed, new customers will not be able to buy them, though existing owners should still retain access in their GOG libraries.

Why Are These PC Games Being Delisted?

GOG staff confirmed on the forums that both Ancestors and The Outer Worlds will be removed on December 15. However, no exact time was given, and there is no clear official explanation for why the delisting is happening now.

The most likely reason appears to be behind the scenes changes with the publishing company that handled these games. Both titles were originally published under Private Division, a label created by Take Two Interactive. Private Division was responsible for a number of well known PC releases, including The Outer Worlds and Ancestors.

In 2024, Take Two decided to cut Private Division loose. The label was sold to an outside buyer rather than being kept in house. That buyer was later revealed to be Haveli Investments, which then brought in former staff members from Annapurna Interactive to help run the operation.

After these changes, the company or a portion of it appears to have been rebranded under a new name: Fictions. References to this shift can be found in updated company information and privacy policy pages, where the Fictions name is now used.

Despite that, both The Outer Worlds and Ancestors are still currently listed as Private Division titles in public facing materials. That suggests that the games may be in the middle of being moved from the old label to the new structure. The delisting on GOG could simply be part of that transition. Rights, contracts, or distribution agreements may need to be updated before the games can return.

There is no confirmation yet that this is just a temporary licensing shuffle, but it is a reasonable guess. GOG representatives have said they hope to bring the games back in the future. How likely that is and how long it might take remains unknown.

What PC Gamers Should Do Now

If you prefer DRM free PC games and like keeping your collection on GOG, you should consider grabbing these titles before they vanish from the store.

  • Ancestors: The Humankind Odyssey is a third person survival and exploration game where you guide an evolving primate clan through prehistoric Africa. It is experimental and sometimes unforgiving, but it stands out as a very different kind of survival experience on PC. With the deep discount, it is an easy pickup if you have been on the fence.
  • The Outer Worlds is a first person sci fi RPG with an emphasis on player choice, dialogue, and humor. It comes from Obsidian, a studio famous for PC RPGs, and sits nicely alongside other modern RPG favorites for PC gamers. Even without a discount, it is a strong addition to any RPG focused library.

Remember that delisting only affects new purchases. If you already own these games on GOG, they should stay in your account and remain downloadable as usual. Delisting does not erase past purchases.

If the delisting really is just part of the move from Private Division to Fictions, there is a fair chance these games could come back to GOG in the future. But that is not guaranteed and no timeline has been given. For anyone who prefers GOG over other PC stores, or who wants DRM free builds for long term game preservation, it is safer to buy now rather than hope for a return later.

For PC gamers always watching for good deals and potential delistings, this is a reminder that even well known titles can quietly disappear from storefronts. If there are games you really care about, especially on DRM free platforms, it can be worth picking them up sooner rather than waiting indefinitely for the perfect sale.

In the meantime, if you are browsing for other things to play, there are plenty of strong options on PC. From lists of the best PC games and free to play picks to curated recommendations for FPS, RPG, and co op experiences, there is no shortage of new titles to explore while the industry continues to shuffle publishers and storefronts behind the scenes.
