Yakuza 0 Is Getting A Director’s Cut On PC
Yakuza 0 has earned a reputation as one of the standout action adventure games on PC. It mixes intense crime drama with completely over the top side content and some of the most memorable minigames around. For many players it is the entry that hooked them on the Yakuza series thanks to its story, characters and endless distractions.
Sega has now announced that Yakuza 0 is getting a spruced up Director’s Cut on PC. This new version is set to launch on December 8. While that sounds great on paper, there is an important catch for PC players who care about their libraries, their wallets, or both.
When the Director’s Cut releases, the current version of Yakuza 0 will be delisted from Steam. That means new buyers will no longer be able to purchase the original edition from that store once the change goes live.
At the moment Sega has only confirmed the delisting for Steam. It is not yet clear whether the same will happen on other storefronts. The publisher has been contacted for clarification, but until there is an official statement this uncertainty remains.
Delistings always make PC players a little nervous since part of the appeal of PC gaming is long term access to your library. In this case there is some reassurance along with some strategic choices to consider before December.
What Happens To The Original Version And How Pricing Will Work
The Director’s Cut will contain the core content of the original Yakuza 0 and more, wrapped into a single upgraded package. From a pure content perspective that sounds like a win. But the pricing shift makes the situation more complicated.
Right now, the original Yakuza 0 is available for around 20 dollars on Steam. Once the Director’s Cut arrives, that new version will be priced at 50 dollars. So although the new edition replaces the old one, it comes with a much higher base cost for anyone jumping in fresh.
Sega has also announced an exclusive Director’s Cut upgrade path that is only available to owners of the original game. If you buy the standard Yakuza 0 now, you will be able to purchase the Director’s Cut upgrade for 15 dollars after launch.
That means:
- Buy original Yakuza 0 now for 20 dollars.
- Later, buy the Director’s Cut upgrade for 15 dollars.
- Total cost for Director’s Cut content: 35 dollars instead of 50 dollars.
Sega is marketing this as a significant savings, essentially encouraging players to grab the base game before it is delisted and then upgrade later. It is a slightly cheeky move because the price rise is only an issue due to the delisting, but for savvy PC players it does create a clear way to save money if they know about it ahead of time.
For existing owners there is also some good news. If you already have the original Yakuza 0 in your Steam library, it will remain there. The game will not be removed from your account even after it is delisted from the store. You will be able to keep playing the current version as much as you like, and you will also qualify for that 15 dollar upgrade path to the Director’s Cut if you want the new edition.
Where To Buy Now And Why It Matters For PC Gamers
If you have not picked up Yakuza 0 yet but have been interested, the timing is actually in your favor right now. On top of the lower 20 dollar Steam price, the game is currently on sale at GOG where it is discounted to around 11 dollars or 9 pounds, which is about 45 percent off. Stores almost certainly knew that the Director’s Cut and delisting were coming, so this sale is arriving at a very convenient moment.
Grabbing the game during this discount window can be a smart move for a few reasons:
- You lock in ownership of the original version before it disappears from at least one major PC storefront.
- You can enjoy Yakuza 0 as it currently exists without needing the Director’s Cut right away.
- If Sega extends the same upgrade path across platforms or stores, you may later be able to move to the Director’s Cut for less than full price.
For PC gamers, situations like this highlight a few ongoing trends in digital distribution. Publishers are increasingly willing to replace older versions of games with newer editions at higher price points. At the same time, PC platforms still generally respect ownership once a title is in your library, even if it disappears from the store. That makes paying attention to announcements, sales and delistings more important than ever if you want the best combination of value and long term access.
Yakuza 0 is already widely regarded as a must play game for story driven action fans, especially those who like a mix of serious drama and completely absurd side content. With a Director’s Cut on the way, it is clear Sega plans to keep this entry visible for new players. If you care about price and flexibility though, it is worth thinking about when and where you buy it before the original version leaves Steam.
