Many PC builders want the fastest and most powerful hardware for their gaming computers. When AMD changed the memory for its Radeon RX 9060 XT graphics cards from SK Hynix to Samsung GDDR6, gamers quickly compared their performance.
At first, people noticed that the new cards with Samsung memory were a little less powerful than the older ones with SK Hynix memory. Some were disappointed by this drop in speed. However, new comparisons show that there are important benefits to the Samsung memory as well.
XFX, a partner of AMD, shared test results on a popular Chinese tech blog. The tests found that the Samsung memory helps the graphics cards run much cooler—up to ten degrees Celsius lower than models with SK Hynix memory. This also means the fans do not need to spin as fast, making the cards quieter during use. On top of that, the new memory uses about twenty watts less power.
Although some players focus only on power and speed, there are other important factors for building a reliable gaming PC. Keeping your computer cool is necessary, especially in warm places where heat is a huge challenge. If your parts run cooler and use less power, your computer will be quieter and could last longer.
Both SK Hynix and Samsung are major companies investing in memory technology for gaming and artificial intelligence. It is surprising to see such a big difference between two leading brands.
According to XFX, you can recognize the new version of the RX 9060 XT cards with Samsung memory by looking for the V3 label. These cards are already available in China. While more tests are needed to see all the differences, the new V3 version might be a better choice if you want a quieter and cooler gaming PC.
