Trine Classic Collection Free on Epic and Now Easier for PC Co op

Trine Classic Collection goes free for the holidays

The Epic Games Store has been running a daily free game giveaway since December 18, and one of the standout offers is the Trine Classic Collection. This bundle includes the first four games in the Trine series at no cost, available to claim on Epic until December 31.

If you are into PC gaming and enjoy lighter puzzle platformers, this is an easy pickup. Trine has been a familiar name on Steam for years, and this collection wraps up a generous amount of content into a single free bundle.

The Trine series is known for its colorful fantasy world, satisfying physics based puzzles, and friendly co op. While this collection does not include the latest entry Trine 5 you still get roughly two dozen hours of gameplay spread across Trine 1 through 4.

What makes Trine worth your time

Trine is a puzzle platformer that takes clear inspiration from classics like The Lost Vikings. You play as three different characters who each bring a unique skill set to the table:

  • A knight who is clumsy but strong, ideal for tanking damage and smashing through obstacles.
  • A thief armed with a bow and grappling hooks, perfect for agile movement and ranged attacks.
  • A wizard who can conjure boxes and platforms, letting you solve environmental puzzles in creative ways.

In solo play you can swap between these characters one at a time, using their abilities to get through each level. In co op all three characters are on screen at once, controlled by different players. That is where Trine really comes alive. The combination of physics, multiple abilities, and three players bouncing around often turns levels into playful chaos, but in a good way.

The puzzles are engaging without being brutally difficult. They lean more into experimentation and playful problem solving than hardcore brain teasers. This makes Trine a great series for gamers who want something relaxing and fun to play with friends without having to study long tutorials or guides.

The tone of the games is consistently lighthearted. The narration, characters, and world design all aim for a cozy fantasy feel rather than grit or intensity. Over time, this has made Trine a reliable pick for players who want something charming and dependable to drop into between heavier or more competitive games.

Cross platform co op and account linking

Alongside the Epic giveaway, the developers have rolled out updates for Trine 1 through 4 that improve cross platform play between Steam and the Epic Games Store. This is particularly important on PC, where your friends might be spread across different launchers.

When you start any of the four Trine games on Steam, you will now be prompted to optionally link your Steam and Epic accounts. Once linked, this enables:

  • Cross platform friend invites between Steam and Epic players.
  • Shared achievement progress across platforms.
  • Smoother co op sessions regardless of which PC storefront you or your friends prefer.

For a series built around three player co op, this is a meaningful quality of life improvement. It removes some of the friction that used to exist if one friend picked up the game on Epic during a promotion while others already owned it on Steam.

The update means that if you grab the Trine Classic Collection for free on Epic, you can still easily team up with friends who own the same games on Steam. Everyone gets to use their preferred launcher, and you spend more time playing and less time troubleshooting invites or connectivity issues.

Why PC gamers should not skip this bundle

From a PC gaming perspective the Trine Classic Collection ticks several useful boxes:

  • It is free to claim on Epic for a limited time which is always appealing if you are building up a library.
  • It offers solid co op support that plugs nicely into a typical PC gaming setup with voice chat and friends lists.
  • The cross platform update reduces store lock in and makes it easier to play with anyone on your friends list.
  • The games are light on system requirements compared to modern triple A titles which makes them accessible on a wide range of gaming PCs and laptops.

Trine is not trying to be a massive open world epic or a competitive esports title. Instead it fills that niche of a reliable co op game you can boot up on a weeknight with friends. The physics based puzzles, platforming, and character abilities naturally encourage teamwork and improvisation. You will usually find yourself experimenting with different solutions and laughing when things go slightly wrong.

For many PC players Trine has been one of those early non Valve titles that helped define the feel of modern digital distribution on PC. It has been around long enough to become a familiar name, and the quality across the first four games has stayed surprisingly consistent even with the one more experimental 3D entry, Trine 3, in the mix.

If you enjoy co op games, puzzle platformers, or simply want more variety in your PC library, it is worth logging into the Epic Games Store and grabbing the Trine Classic Collection before the offer expires on December 31. With the new cross platform features, it slots neatly into a modern PC gaming setup where your friends might be scattered across different platforms and launchers. At the price of free there is very little reason not to add it to your collection and have it ready for your next co op night.
