Three Reasons Quarantine Zone Became a TikTok Hit

Quarantine Zone The Last Check is a simulation game that takes place in a world after a zombie outbreak. In the game you act as a guard at a checkpoint and you must decide who is allowed into a safe area. You scan people for signs of the zombie virus by using tools like X rays UV lights and a stethoscope. Sometimes you might see someone trying to hide a bite mark or show symptoms like strange eyes or coughing. If you make the wrong choice you might let a zombie in or hurt an innocent person.
You may have seen videos of the game on social media because it became very popular after its demo was released in May. Many people saw clips of players inspecting people and making tough choices which led to the game getting over a million wishlists on Steam. Even more impressive is that the game got a publishing deal with a well known company called Devolver Digital.
The creator of Quarantine Zone shared the three main reasons why the game took off on TikTok. First streamers and viewers can easily interact because the game is filled with interesting decisions and room for mistakes. When a streamer has to choose if someone is sick or not the audience can give advice and discuss what to do. This makes watching the game more fun.
Second the game has a very short loop. Every minute you look at a new survivor and make a decision. This fast pace is perfect for TikTok and other social media where short videos work best.
Third everything in the game happens right in the middle of the screen with one person at a time. This makes it simple to create vertical videos that look good on TikTok. Because of this design choice even early playtests went viral with one video reaching 30 million views.
Quarantine Zone shows that games designed with quick decisions and clear action can easily become social media hits.
