Sanabi: A Haunted Day – A Free Story Expansion For A Must Play Cyberpunk Platformer

A Fresh Cyberpunk Adventure in Sanabi's World

Sanabi made a strong impression when it launched in 2023. Built by South Korean developer Wonder Potion, it quickly won over action platformer fans with its slick cyberpunk style, tight controls, and fast paced grappling hook movement. The game mixes sharp pixel art with Bionic Commando inspired swinging and a surprisingly emotional story, drawing comparisons to Katana Zero.

Now Wonder Potion has returned with a new expansion called Sanabi: A Haunted Day. This time you are not paying extra or waiting for a big paid DLC drop. A Haunted Day is completely free for anyone who owns the base game. It is also a prequel, so it explores different characters and events that happen before the main campaign.

Instead of reusing the original hero and their iconic grappling hook, the studio chose to build something that feels fresh while staying faithful to what made Sanabi so popular in the first place.

Meet Major Song and Her New Moveset

Sanabi: A Haunted Day puts you in the boots of Major Song, a character who only plays a minor role in the main story. In this expansion she takes center stage and gets her own focused adventure in a very different location. The story sends her into a huge robots scrapyard that is supposedly haunted by strange phenomena. It adds a spooky twist to Sanabi’s neon drenched sci fi world.

One of the biggest changes is how Major Song plays. She does not have the trademark grappling hook that defines the base game. Instead, she brings a completely different toolkit to the fight. Her movement and combat revolve around agile air control and heavy firepower rather than swinging through arenas.

Major Song can pull off infinitely renewable mid air jumps, letting you stay airborne and reposition as much as you need. Combined with this aerial freedom is a massive shotgun that gives her a very different feel from the original protagonist. Where the main game focuses on slingshot positioning and precision, A Haunted Day pushes you toward stylish dodges, parries, and brutal close range blasts.

Players have already picked out some stand out parts of her kit:

  • A double jump that can be refreshed in mid air so you can keep hopping and weaving through attacks.
  • A shotgun dodge move that lets you evade danger while staying aggressive.
  • A projectile parry that lets you turn enemy fire back on them, keeping combat fast and reactive.

Other weapons are hidden deeper in the scrapyard, rewarding exploration and experimentation. According to community impressions, this new moveset has enough depth and complexity to fully replace the grappling hook without feeling like a downgrade. It is a different style but still built around tight timing, fast reactions, and creative movement.

From Small DLC Promise to Full Featured Free Expansion

The free price tag might sound too good to be true, but there is a story behind it. Before launch, Wonder Potion ran a crowdfunding campaign on the Korean platform Tumblbug that pulled in about 1.4 billion won. One of the stretch goals promised backers two short DLC episodes, each around 20 to 30 minutes long.

Sanabi ended up being more successful than the team expected, both in sales and in how strongly players connected with the game. Rather than stick to the bare minimum, the developers decided to go further. They wanted to deliver something more meaningful than a couple of tiny side episodes. The result is A Haunted Day, which is significantly longer and more fleshed out than those early plans.

Instead of a half hour side story, players can expect a couple of hours of new content. That means more time to explore the scrapyard location, learn about Major Song, and see how she fits into the wider Sanabi storyline.

The DLC is described as the first spin off expansion, which strongly suggests another one is still planned. If this first release is anything to go by, future content is likely to keep focusing on character driven episodes with their own twists on the core gameplay.

Early reactions on Steam are very positive. A Haunted Day is sitting at around 96 percent positive reviews, which is right in line with the base game’s strong reception. Players praise how the expansion deepens the characters and maintains the same high bar for animation, pacing, and level design. Many reviews point out that removing the grappling hook could have been a mistake, but the new mechanics more than make up for it.

If you already own Sanabi, there is no reason not to grab A Haunted Day right now. It slots neatly into the existing game as a bonus prequel adventure and costs nothing extra. If you do not have the main game yet, it is currently discounted, making this a good moment to jump in and experience both the original campaign and the new content.

For anyone who enjoys fast 2D action, tight movement, and stylish pixel art, Sanabi and its free expansion are well worth adding to your library. You get a complete cyberpunk story, two distinct playable styles, and now a haunted scrapyard adventure that expands the world even further.
