Razer is famous for creating unique and fun tech gear through exciting collaborations. Sometimes these collabs look great and sometimes they can be a bit much. In their latest collection Razer teamed up with Pokemon to make a set of computer accessories inspired by the popular Kanto starter Pokemon. This sounds like it should be amazing but the results are a little surprising.
The new collection has a keyboard mouse headset and mouse mat. Each accessory is bright and colorful featuring the faces of Charmander Bulbasaur Squirtle and Pikachu repeated all over the gear. The designs are bold with lots of yellow orange blue and green on a black background. Some fans might enjoy these strong visuals but others may find them a little overwhelming or even messy.
The keyboard is a full sized Blackwidow V4 with themed keys and a special scroll bar. The whole top of the keyboard is covered in Pokémon faces which looks unusual. It might even feel like the faces are staring at you as you play. This design choice could be fun for some but off putting for others.
The mouse shows some improvement. It is a Wired Cobra mouse with the same face filled pattern on the buttons and a solid Pikachu yellow for the main body. The color contrast is nice but having faces on the buttons can feel awkward for people who love Pokemon.
The headset in the collection is the Kraken V4. It keeps the Pikachu color theme along the main body of the headphones with only a few faces on the headband. This design is less crowded and could be considered the best looking item in the set.
The mousemat is also filled with Pokemon faces. It is bright and playful but may look cluttered to some users. The overall effect of the collection feels more like a mix of Pokemon images than a stylish or unified set.
It is clear that this collection is aimed at younger fans but that does not mean it has to look too playful or crowded. Razer has released cool Pokemon gear in the past with more balanced designs. Many fans are still hoping for those to become available worldwide.
