Killing Floor 3 for Beginners: Everything You Need to Know
Share
Killing Floor 3 is an action packed first person shooter where you can team up with friends or play solo to battle hordes of mutated monsters called zeds. You can expect fast paced combat lots of weapons and a good amount of chaos. The game costs around forty US dollars and is made by Tripwire Interactive.
A typical match puts you and your team against waves of zeds ending in a tough boss fight. After each wave you can restock ammo and healing supplies and upgrade your weapons using mods. The game is easy to pick up if you are familiar with other shooter games but learning to control and handle groups of enemies takes some practice.
Killing Floor 3 offers six different characters or specialists to pick from. Each has a unique skill set such as medic for healing commando for big damage or ninja for stylish melee attacks. You can level up each specialist by playing more earning passive perks that increase their effectiveness. Getting a specialist to maximum level can take around twenty five hours so there is plenty to work towards.
The game feels satisfying thanks to its upgraded graphics and a detailed gore system. When you defeat zeds you see all the gory effects making each kill visually rewarding. However after a while the waves can feel predictable and a little repetitive especially if you play alone.
There are some story missions you can try solo or co op but they are quite short and mostly involve searching areas and surviving more waves. Most of your lasting progress comes from improving your chosen specialist and getting better at using their abilities in combat.
Killing Floor 3 offers several difficulty levels. Team play at normal is pretty relaxed but solo play gets tougher in the later waves. If you want a real challenge there are hard and Hell on Earth modes which can be very tough and are aimed at experienced players who want to test their skills.
Fighting bosses like the Impaler or Queen Crawler requires different tactics. For example you might need to lure the Impaler around obstacles or go all out attacking the Queen Crawler before she overwhelms you with her hatchlings. Learning the right approach for each boss makes the game more interesting.
After about ten hours you might notice the game getting a bit repetitive but teaming up with friends makes it much more fun. While the game does not hugely stand out from other shooters in terms of creativity it is a great way to have a good time with friends.
The developers have promised more updates in the future. New weapons maps characters and game modes are planned to keep things fresh. If you are not sure about buying right away it might be a good idea to wait for more content or a sale. However if you loved earlier Killing Floor games this entry is a fun way to jump back in with improved graphics and familiar monster blasting action.
