Fans Suspect AI Was Used for Diablo Immortal and Hearthstone Crossover Art

Recently, some fans have noticed unusual details in artwork promoting a crossover event between Diablo Immortal and Hearthstone. One Reddit user started a discussion by pointing out that the ear on one of the characters looked strange and not like a real human ear. This made others wonder if the art was created by an artificial intelligence program.

People found more odd things in the same image. There are slices of bread on the table with no plate. A hand seems to fade into the wall. A lit candle does not look like it is burning normally. The designs on the backs of the cards look mismatched and one card seems to show the Hearthstone board itself.

Although we do not know if this artwork will appear in the games, Diablo Immortal social media accounts have shared the image to promote the event. The Hearthstone accounts have not shared it, which may be because the event mainly focuses on Diablo Immortal.

This is not the first time Blizzard has faced questions about using AI for its art. Last year, some fans thought that new Hearthstone hero skins were made with generative AI. Blizzard said it was looking into the claims and the skins were removed from the game before there was any clear answer.

No individual artist has been credited for the current crossover art. Many people online believe that the image was at least partly made with AI. Some fans are upset, saying that the unique artwork is a big part of what makes Hearthstone special.

As technology changes and AI tools become more common in games, some fans are worried about the future of art in their favorite games. The author of the article has asked Blizzard for a comment and will update if more information becomes available.
