Esports Hotel in China Loses Expensive PC Parts to Guest Thieves
Share
In China, esports hotels are a big trend. These hotels let guests play games for hours on powerful computers in a comfortable room. However, a recent incident shows not everyone comes just to play. In one hotel, several young guests checked out early and took valuable computer parts with them instead of regular items like towels or shampoo.
The stolen parts included powerful Ryzen 9 9800X3D processors and RTX 5070 graphics cards. These parts are the heart and brain of any gaming computer, making them highly valuable. The thieves carefully opened up several PCs, took the parts they wanted and also grabbed some gaming mice and keyboards. Interestingly, they left other pieces like the RAM sticks behind, possibly because they did not know how to remove them.
The hotel owner noticed something was wrong when he could not contact the guests through WeChat, a popular messaging app. When he went to check on the rooms, he found the computers were missing important parts. The owner reported the theft to the police. Based on the way the theft was carried out, it seems the thieves planned it in advance and brought special tools to help them.
These kinds of thefts might be new to people outside China, but hotels around the world often have problems with guests taking smaller items. Losing expensive computer parts, though, can cost a hotel thousands of dollars. To prevent future thefts, hotel owners may need to invest in better security for their gaming setups.
This story shows that while esports hotels offer a fun experience, they also need strong protection for their valuable equipment.
