Dungeons of Dusk Brings Turn Based Carnage to the Dusk Universe

A New Spin on the World of Dusk

Dusk fans are getting a surprising new adventure, and it is not another boomer shooter. New Blood Interactive has announced Dungeons of Dusk, a turn based dungeon crawler set canonically between the episodes of the original fast paced retro FPS.

Instead of sprinting and bunny hopping through arenas, this spin off slows things down and turns the action into a more tactical experience. Even so, the new game keeps the same grimy horror vibe and over the top violence that made Dusk such a cult hit on PC.

Dungeons of Dusk made its world premiere during the PC Gaming Show: Most Wanted, where it quickly stood out for how it twists a classic shooter universe into a dungeon crawling format without losing its edge.

Turn Based Mayhem in the Dusk Universe

The reveal trailer is a minute and a half of pure gameplay that shows how Dungeons of Dusk mixes slow and thoughtful turns with ferocious combat. Instead of the endless strafing of the original, every move looks like a deliberate choice. The result is a dungeon crawler that still feels violent and intense, just in a more methodical way.

The enemies are a wild mix of horrors. You will be tearing into giant rats, elite magic users and even a skeletal goat creature called Black Phillip, a clear nod for fans of the horror movie The VVitch. The tone is still totally Dusk. It is grimy, occult and gleefully over the top.

Your arsenal is just as brutal as the enemies you face. The trailer shows off:

  • Sawn off shotguns for close range devastation.
  • Fire axes for brutal melee attacks.
  • Pistols for more precise shots.
  • Molotov cocktails to set groups of enemies on fire.
  • Dual wielded sickles for fast slashing attacks.
  • A mysterious wishing well object oozing green liquid that looks like it could grant boons or unleash chaos.

Even in a turn based format, the game is clearly designed to let you chain together stylish and destructive moves. Each turn looks like an opportunity to set up big payoffs and creative kills rather than simply waiting for your next shot.

The soundtrack keeps the energy high. The trailer is backed by thick, heavy guitar riffs that match the occult metal mood of the world. If you loved shredding to the Doom Eternal soundtrack while you played shooters, this looks like another game where you will keep the music on repeat while you rip through dungeons.

Why PC Gamers Should Care

Dusk has already earned its place in PC gaming history. It helped kick off the revival of old school FPS design and has been praised as a trailblazer among modern indie boomer shooters. Bringing that same world into a turn based dungeon crawler is a bold move that could appeal to both shooter fans and strategy fans.

For PC gamers, Dungeons of Dusk is interesting for a few reasons:

  • It shows how flexible the Dusk universe is beyond just running and gunning.
  • It offers something fresh for fans who have already mastered the FPS and want more story and world building between episodes.
  • It gives strategy and dungeon crawling players a way into the Dusk setting without needing twitch reflexes.

The game has already caught attention enough to land on PC Gamer’s 2025 Top 100 list, which is a strong sign that it could become a notable release next year.

If you prefer your shooters pure and fast, this might not replace the original Dusk for you. But it could be a perfect companion piece that you play when you want something a bit slower and more thoughtful without leaving behind the metal soaked, occult horror aesthetic.

Dungeons of Dusk is planned for release sometime next year, and you can already add it to your wishlist on Steam. Keeping it wishlisted is a good way to track updates, support the developers and make sure you do not miss launch day if you are a fan of retro style PC games.

In the meantime, the PC Gaming Show Most Wanted lineup is packed with other upcoming PC titles. If you want more games to watch while you wait for Dungeons of Dusk, there is a full list of trailers and announcements from the show, many of them aimed squarely at PC players who love shooters, strategy and everything in between.
