Control Resonant Trademark Sparks Hopes For A Big Remedy Reveal At The Game Awards

A New Mystery In The Remedyverse

Fans looking forward to The Game Awards this year were already a bit disappointed when CD Projekt confirmed that The Witcher 4 will not be making an appearance. But there might be something else for story driven action fans to get excited about. A new trademark filing for something called Control Resonant has appeared, and it has Remedy fans buzzing about what it could mean.

The name Control will ring a bell for a lot of PC gamers. Remedy Entertainment’s 2019 action game quickly became a favorite for its weird supernatural setting, incredible physics effects, and strong PC features like ray tracing and high refresh rate support. A sequel has already been confirmed, but this new trademark suggests we might be getting closer to hearing more about what comes next.

The trademark was spotted by MP1st and was filed with the European Union Intellectual Property Office. Interestingly, it was not filed directly by Remedy but by a law firm called Nordia Law, which operates in several Nordic countries including Finland where Remedy is based. That might sound like a random name on paper, but Nordia actually has a history of working closely with Remedy on big deals.

What Is Control Resonant?

Control Resonant is the official term mentioned in the trademark filing, and naturally fans are already guessing that this could be the full title or a sub brand connected to Control 2. Remedy previously confirmed that the project codenamed Heron is in fact Control 2, so this new name is arriving at a very interesting time.

The trademark itself is quite broad. It covers a large list of categories, including:

  • Computer gaming software and video game software
  • Printed material such as books, magazines, and comics
  • Television series and film adaptations
  • Music and audio products
  • Clothing and merchandise
  • Accessories including items like key lanyards

This wide coverage is typical when a studio or publisher wants to protect a name for use across games, media, and merchandise. It means Control Resonant might not be limited to just a new game. It could be a transmedia project that touches both gaming and TV or film, or it could even be a specific season, expansion, or spin off within the Control universe.

The connection between Nordia Law and Remedy strengthens the idea that this filing really is tied to the studio. Nordia previously advised Remedy on its Control 2 contract negotiations with publisher 505 Games. That deal has since changed, with Remedy spending 17 million euros to regain full control of the IP from 505. Nordia has also assisted Remedy in financing deals with Tencent and Annapurna, which further ties the firm into Remedy’s long term strategy for its shared universe.

There is also an interesting link to Annapurna. That agreement gave Annapurna the rights to adapt both Control and Alan Wake into television and film projects. If Control Resonant ends up being a title for a series, a film, or even a cross media brand, it might slot neatly into that plan.

Will We See It At The Game Awards?

The timing of the trademark has fans speculating about a reveal at The Game Awards. The filing arrives just a couple of weeks before the show, and the event has become one of the main stages for major PC and console game announcements.

Remedy in particular has a strong history with The Game Awards:

  • Alan Wake 2 was first announced at The Game Awards in 2021
  • The studio returned later with an unforgettable live performance featuring Sam Lake and the in universe band from Alan Wake 2

Because of that track record, it is easy to see why people are hoping that Control Resonant could be teased or fully revealed on stage. The Game Awards 2025 will kick off at 4:30 pm PT or 7:30 pm ET on December 11, and Remedy fans will be watching closely for any hint of a new logo, trailer, or even a short teaser confirming what this mysterious title actually is.

Of course, this is all speculation until the show actually happens. It is possible that Control Resonant turns out to be connected more to films or TV than to a new PC game. It could also be an internal brand name, a piece of a larger multimedia plan, or even a long term placeholder that will not surface publicly for a while.

Still, for PC gamers who enjoyed tweaking their rigs to run Control with maximum settings, ray tracing, and high frame rates, the idea of a new entry in the franchise is exciting. Remedy has been steadily building a connected universe between Alan Wake and Control, and anything with the Control name hints at more reality bending action, more strange technology, and more chances to push modern PCs with demanding visuals.

Whether Control Resonant ends up being Control 2’s full title, a spin off, or a cross media project, the trademark confirms that Remedy’s surreal world is far from finished. If you care about PC gaming, performance, and cinematic style action games, this is one trademark worth keeping an eye on when The Game Awards go live.
