AMD’s top executive recently shared that computer chips made by TSMC in the United States will be more expensive than those produced in Taiwan. The extra cost will be between about 5 percent and 20 percent. However, the company believes that the higher price is justified by the benefits these chips provide.
The new chips are expected to arrive by late 2025. This move supports the idea of making important technology closer to home. AMD also sees value in having more reliable supply and supporting local manufacturing.
While the higher cost might be a concern for some, AMD is confident that the advantages make it a good decision for the future.
